My digging craft was honed through years of scanning the credits of old jazz, funk and soul records for names like drummer Bernard Purdie and bassist Chuck Rainey, musicians who didn't bother with the spotlight but always made things sound better. While looking for records to sample in my early hip hop productions developed my appreciation for vintage sounds, I never lost my love for new music.

My weekly Melbourne radio show Stylin' continues to give me the opportunity to find and present new and underground music across the soulful spectrum, as well as having legends and breaking artists drop in for mixes, interviews and live sessions. I can't stress enough the importance of doing the show on an independent, listener supported station like 3RRR-FM where I am not told what to play, how to play it or how to speak.

Stylin' 900 celebrates the upcoming 900th episode of Stylin', which marks 18 years of Friday afternoons on 3RRR. Mostly it gives me an excuse to reach out to some of my favourite artists and labels. Just like Bernard Purdie and Chuck Rainey added that special sauce to the music of Aretha Franklin, Gil Scott-Heron, Quincy Jones and Donald Byrd, the artists and musicians on Stylin' 900 have collaborated with heavyweights like Kaidi Tatham, Theo Parrish, Kamasi Washington, Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Manny, Fatima, Floating Points, Frank Ocean, John Legend, Kamaal Williams, Kokoroko, Dego, Mndsgn, Swarvy, SiR, Snoh Aalegra, Rejjie Snow, Kelela, Photay, Underground Resistance, Model 500, Tyree Cooper, Byron the Aquarius, HNNY, Kai Alce, Javonntte, EABS, Tenderlonious, Ibibio Sound Machine, Makaya McCraven, Sharon Jones, Yusef Lateef, Hugh Masekela, Lauryn Hill, Mulatu Astatke, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, SZA, Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Mike Dunn, 30/70 and Machinedrum.
